Marcelo has reportedly agreed to pay a €500,000 fine, in addition to the €500,000 already given to the Tax Agency months ago, and accept a four-month suspended jail sentence to settle his tax offense. However, the Brazil international will not actually go to prison because he doesn't have a record but must not commit a crime in the next two years.
The case against the left-back was considered serious with the penalty accounting for 60 per cent of the basis of the fraud charge, having already appeared before a judge last November. There, he accepted the accusation and promised to return all the money owed after a brief interrogation by the Court.
In addition to handing him these punishments, the Public Prosecutor´s Office denounced Marcelo for making a corporate structure to conceal the income received from the exploitation of his image rights - a method which a number of prominent players have been caught out on recently, including Alexis Sanchez.
Nevertheless, the 29-year-old has settled the matter and can now return his focus to Real Madrid, who play Real Betis away on Sunday.
