Cristiano Ronaldo struck late on to put Real 2-1 up and immediately headed towards the stand behind the goal to perform his trademark celebration. So far, so normal. However, after receiving the adulation of his team-mates something changed.
Ronaldo turned back towards the fans and made several gestures with his hands. The first, pointing towards his eye with his index finger, is commonly used as a way of telling someone to pay attention.
The Portuguese then continued, placing his thumb and index finger together in what is usually considered a symbol of money.
The rest of the Real team had already retreated back into their own half at this point and Ronaldo followed suit, taking advantage of the restart to make the second gesture once again.
Many guesses have been ventured as to the motivation for the gestures, with some suggesting it may be to do with a possible contract extension. Others have suggested that the act of rubbing his fingers was nothing to do with money but rather the sense of smell and Ronaldo's nose for goals.
Right now, no one knows what the gestures mean and who they were directed at other than Ronaldo himself.
