Here is the list as it stands:
Goalkeepers: De Gea, Kepa, Reina
Defenders: Carvajal, Odriozola, Pique, Ramos, Nacho, Azpilicueta, Alba and Marcos Alonso
Midfield: Busquets, Saul, Iniesta, Thiago, Koke, Isco, David Silva and Asensio.
Forwards: Vazquez, Costa, Rodrigo and Aspas.
What this means is that Marcos Alonso confirms his status as an integral part of this Spain squad, at the expense of Betis defender Bartra.
Furthermore, Aspas and Rodrigo, two of the best forward players in Spain this season, will finish their season by depriving Alvaro Morata a place in the squad. The striker has struggled at Chelsea since Christmas and he will be joined in staying at home by Vitolo, who has not had much consistency since joining Atletico Madrid.
Odriozola will be able to fight for a place at right back with Carvajal after his fine year with Real Sociedad, and he has impressed on his few outings with 'La Roja' so far. Indeed, he has put himself ahead of Sergi Roberto in the pecking order.
Morata will certainly have been the hardest decision that Lopetegui has had to make. He has always been highly thought of in Spain, and this time last year it would have been unthinkable that he would not go to Russia. His lack of playing time at Chelsea has cost him. Aspas has capitalised, coming back from injury last week to continue his fine form all season, with a goal and an assist.
