'I think it is an ideal situation. When you are a football player you perform until the last days of your contract', Wenger said when asked about players whose contracts expire in 12 months time.
Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs could leave on a free next summer if they fail to sign contract extensions, but Wenger is not worried it will affect their performances.
'I think the performance on the day does not depend on the length of the contract, if that was true we would sign everyone for 20 years and be happy', he said.
Wenger also stated that, as transfer fees and wages continue to escalate, players will become more likely to see out their contracts: 'In the future I think you will see more often players going to the end of their contracts', he added.
'Why? Because transfers are becoming so high even for normal players that you will see more players going to the end of their contracts because no-one is going to want to pay what is demanded', the Frenchman continued. 'I'm convinced in the next ten years that will become usual'.
