Speaking ahead of the game against West Brom on Sunday, the Portuguese revealed that whilst he is not a fan of the January transfer window, he would be open to doing business if it was in the club's best interests.
United have been linked with a host of players as they look to remain competitive in light of Manchester City's imperious domestic form this term, with Arsenal's Mesut Ozil, Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann and Chelsea's Willian among the players linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Whilst he would not talk about individual players, the former Chelsea boss did admit that he could use the transfer market to his advantage when it re-opens in two months' time.
'I'm not a big defender of the January market but there are players and situations that sometimes you have the chance to do and you shouldn't lose that chance,' Mourinho said.
'I don't like the January market just to buy (for the sake of buying). But if you can buy one you would buy in June, with the chance a few months before, then great.
'I don't speak about players - especially players who belong to other clubs,' he interjected, when quizzed about Griezmann and Ozil.
Ozil is thought to be favouring a reunion with Mourinho over a switch to La Liga pacesetters Barcelona, though at this moment in time it remains unclear where his future lies.
