He woke up as number 10 on the list, but it looks like Alvaro Morata will go to be as number one, costing clubs a whopping €130m over the course of his career so far.
Until now, Fernando Torres had held the title of the most expensive Spanish player ever, in terms of cumulative transfer fees, something which he achieved with only three transfers: Atletico Madrid to Liverpool, Liverpool to Chelsea and Chelsea to AC Milan, all his other moves were either loans or free transfers, such as his return to Atletico.
In total, 'El Niño' racked up €99.5 million in transfer fees, leaving him well ahead of Alvaro Negredo (€76m), Juan Mata (€71m), Cesc Fabregas (€70m) and Roberto Soldado (€62m).
In fact, until today, the now retired ex-Middlesbrough midfielder Gaizka Mendieta had accumulated more in transfer fees than Morata, €3m more to be precise. However, the Real striker's move to Chelsea will send him flying up the list.
Morata was sold to Juventus for €20m three years ago before being re-purchased by Real for €30m last season. That gives a total of €50m in fees before his mega-money move to Chelsea, making the grand total an eye-watering €130m.
This looks like it will take some beating, with there not being a single Spanish footballer below the age of 25 who can compara to Morata's pre-Chelsea figures.
The closest to Morata at that age is Isco, who has already cost clubs €36m at the age of 25 but it seems unlikely that he will leave Madrid for €110m or that he will be transferred several times.
The move makes Morata the sixth most expensive footballer of all time in terms of cumulative transfer fees, moving ahead of Nicolas Anelka. The five players ahead of Morata in the list are: James Rodriguez, Romelu Lukaku, Gonzalo Higuain, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Angel Di Maria.
The latter has racked up almost €180m in fees, could Morata one day reach the top of the list?
