The Belgian international goalkeeper has said that the players must start taking responsibility for their defensive frailties.
These frailties were highlighted in last weekend's 3-3 draw with Watford which lead to heavy criticism for Jurgen Klopp's side and they almost slipped up again from a late corner against Hoffenheim.
Although Mignolet is aware of the mistakes made by him and his defence, the goalkeeper has insisted that they cannot sacrifice their attacking instincts in order to resolve it.
"We have the qualities and our natural game will be attacking, we know we have to fill that in with a really defensive spirirt," Mignolet said.
"We know that is where we have to improve. We are not blind. Everybody knows it in the dressing room, but there is no point throwing everything away.
"You cannot change a natural footballing side that goes forward, but we know we have to mix that in with a good defensive, aggressive spirit to make sure they don’t score the goals."
The one-goal lead which Liverpool bring back to Anfield for the return-leg of the Champions League qualifier is largely down to the Belgian stopper who made a string of impressive saves, including one from a weak Anrej Kramaric penalty in Hoffenheim.
He added: "‘When you are in the spotlight and play at the highest level there are always going to be things thrown at you.
"You have to be strong enough characters to deal with that. We can definitely be successful. We have to try and look in the mirror and say it is only us who can change it.
"We know how long we had to fight to get that fourth place in the league and we don’t want to throw it away."
