Football's governing body is considering the idea of extending the breaks, but reducing the number of them that take place of the course of a season as they look to balance club and international football.
At present, there are four international breaks per season, with each one lasting two weeks in duration.
The breaks take place in August/September, October, November and March, with the current one being the second of the new season.
The timing of the international breaks often comes in for criticism from club managers, but it is uncertain at this point if the idea of longer but fewer breaks would be popular, with the idea very much in its infancy.
According to 'BBC Sport', all of the relevant stakeholders (clubs, leagues, broadcasters etc) would need to be in agreement to change the dats of the breaks, which are currently set through until 2024.
