Spanish publication 'Mundo Deportivo' reports that Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is top of Ernesto Valverde's wishlist ahead of the transfer window reopening in a little over two months' time.
Koulibaly has gained a burgeoning reputation in Serie A in recent times and is considered one of the finest defenders in Italian football. Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is a huge fan of the Senegalese, having tried to sign him on several occasions.
The 26-year-old has been ever-present so far this campaign as Napoli started the season in fine form, with them currently leading the way in Italy following a run of eight wins from eight games.
The aformentioned source reports that Barca sent scouts to watch the player during the weekend's game against Roma, when he helped his side to a clean sheet and yet another victory.
However, if Koulibaly's interview with 'Il Messaggero' earlier this month is anything to go by he may not be in a rush to stop working with Maurizio Sarri, with the defender describing the Napoli boss as 'a genius'.
'He rediscovered me, he gave me confidence,' Koulibaly explained.
'He really is a genius, he sees things others don't see. He makes you understand how football is and isn't unpredictable. He's a scholar.
'Any question you ask him, he always has an answer - and it's always right. He helps you to think as a team and not as an individual.'
